I presume that my readers have already been apprised of the torture tactic used at Gitmo and at CIA “black sites” around the world in which a prisoner is restrained in a prone position and bright strobe lights are shined in his (or her) face and loud music blared at him for hours or days.
A while back, Mother Jones released the “torture playlist,” a list of songs reported by the torturers themselves.
Ironically, one of the acts to appear on the list is Rage Against the Machine, a favorite among protest groups. Rage is just a great band, and their anti-authoritarian message is spot-on when you’re that kind of mood.
So, according to alternet, Rage is trying to organize the musicians on the torture list to protest their music being used in this context.
It will be interesting to see if this gains ground or just fades out.
Also: This blogger finds it tremendously amusing that this music is being used for this purpose without permission while at the very same time the RIAA, aided of course by big guh’ment, is having people arrested on college campuses for file sharing. Classic! Perhaps the alleged file-sharers will end up at Gitmo and get to listen to their music anyway!
