Court delays execution of Troy Anthony Davis

Troy Anthony Davis

The United States Supreme Court has delayed in the execution of Troy Anthony Davis, a Georgia man convicted of killing a Georgia police officer.

I blogged about this on my stumbleupon review blog 15 months ago, and it’s still going on. I had this to say:

A case of a man sentenced to death for a crime that the evidence suggests he did not commit. He turned himself into the police after hearing that he was being sought, but the police turned around and made it look as though he had been captured and brought in. Very sketchy case – let’s help get this story out.

Since then, the story has made much more prominent news, and the case against Davis has grown even weaker: most of the witnesses who orignally testified against him have now recanted their testimony. The Georgia Supreme Court refused to delay the execution, essentially passing the buck to the US Supreme Court, whose rightful jurisdiction seems a bit murky.

In any case, let’s not let this man die unless some new evidence emerges more directly implicating him.

  1. Your page doesn’t have a date on it. I have no idea whether or not this is new information. Given the give and take of Mr. Davis’ situation, this post could be months, even years old. I StumbledUpon your site, and I will rank it negatively for such a silly omission. 5 Ws: Who, what, where, when, and why.

  2. Umm, the date is there – in the metadata right below the social bar. Maybe this is too low? I think I’ll move it.

    Thanks for the tip.
